------------------------------------------------ "Oh - Okay, then . . ." Kadyn Kroeger stumbled over words as he stared into the sparkling green eyes of another trainer. The boy in front of him had to have arrived no more than an hour before he did, though by now he was parading around like a master with a disgruntled Weedle following him around. He wouldn't have said anything to the boy, but he had just saved him from a lot of embarassment. Kade had started heading toward the boat to take him from Onyx Harbour to Emerald Island. Big mistake. He hadn't stopped at the building he needed to go to. The new trainer had pointed him to it and told him about what he needed to do, actually. "Yup! Just go to tha building and you'll get a started pack and your first Pokémon!" Kade nodded and waved a goodbye to the boy, turning on his heels in an attempt to act cool about everything. He was about to jump with excitement, but he wouldn't let it show.
Long legs strode toward the building he could spot not too far away. The sun was high in the sky, though tucked behind dark clouds. The television in the lobby of the Pokémon Center had the news on that morning, and the reporter had warned them of a short storm that was to start around noon. A strong wind was beginning to pick up as he walked toward the building, but overall the day was actually fairly nice. The rain would begin in a moment, but it was calm out. Peacful even, when one ignored the shouts of new trainers happily prancing around with their first Pokémon, that is. Surpise lit the boy's face as he strode forward, just a bit away from the door of the home he was pointed to. The building was a home? That was nice! Though he couldn't have been more surprised when he noted that the captain lived in the house. The captain of the boat to Emerald Island, that is. He placed his hand around the door knob, the trainer that directed him to the house hvaing told him he could walk in and take a seat.
Taking in the biggest breath of air he could possibly muster up to bring inside him, he pushed the door open and stepped in. Kade had actually closed his eyes so when he stepped in the door he would be shocked at the full picture. Childish, but filled with the playfulness only someone like Kadyn could bring. No one was in the room, so he positioned himself on a seat. One of three lined up against the wall. The professors were probably busy doign whatever they needed to do, and the captain was probably doing he most out of all of them. Then again, how would he know? The things scienists and sea-loving people did amazed him, mostly because he couldn't focus on one thing for so long and he was directionally challenged.

[ AIDE LUCY WINTERS ] All of the Islands got panicky at the start of Fall. The hurricanes started coming, and it was a lot harder to try and get to each island. Everyone started stocking up just in case there was a flash flood or just in case the hurricanes were really bad. Most of the buildings were built with fairly solid foundations or built with pure concrete, but people were still very cautious. Especially since they lived on islands, it took a long time to get help from people and to get provisions. That's when all the people looked to the sailors. They were more or less the life lines of the people of the Golden Islands. When the boats were off, life was dull. but then the boats come back into the harbors and the islands rush with energy.
It was exactly the same in the laboratory. Whenever Professor Redwood and Kai left to ferry the new coordinators to the other islands, Lucy was left behind to man the lab in case coordinators came by. Usually Lucy could sit outside and take a swim, but the winds picked up and the water became too choppy to stay in. So here she was, standing in the Professor's living room, dripping puddles into the carpet. Hopefully, they'd dry before the Professor came back. Pulling actual clothes on, she walked over to the front of the house, where the coordinators usually came in first. She hadn't expected anyone to already be there, so she was quite surprised when she saw the boy sitting in one of the seats.
"Hey," she said with a smile, pulling her wet hair into a bun. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting long. You waiting for a starter?" Obviously he was here for a starter, but she just wanted to start some small talk. It got a little lonely sometimes, and it wasn't like the boy was going to leave anytime soon. He was stuck on Onyx Island until the Professor came back.
She gestured for the boy to follow, and led him into another room. The wall was pretty small, but an entire wall had been devoted to Pokeballs, each with a little tag indicating species and gender. Expecting the boy to know what to do, she headed to a cupboard at the other end of the room, rummaging for a rather large bag. "There's lots to choose from, so take your time," she said, pulling out a plain pack and holding it out for him, "And here are a few items to get you started on your journey. It's actually a lot, so I suggest getting a pretty big bag to carry your things in."

------------------------------------------------ No more than five minutes could have passed before a young woman strolled into the house he sat in. When she entered, his eyes glittered with friendliness, obviously more than ready to make a new friend. The thought of her being another coordinator ready to get her first Pokémon crossed his mind for only a moment, his jealous and competetive side hidden by his exuberant personality for a bit. Also, she wandered in from one of the other rooms in the house. Obviously not just anyone could go wander through the house. And what trainer would show up wet? Well, actually, that was quite likely. The water was usually rather nice and appeared to be great for swimming. A storm was brewing, though, and even good swimmers usually avoided the choppy water. Kade liked to swim, actually. The water was very calming, and it could really feel like a cradle surrounding a person. Enveloping them in a warm, happy feeling.
His sparkling blue eyes watched her with curiosity brimming around them. She smiled over a hello, and moved her arms around while she pulled her hair up into a bun. He smiled back at her, about to send over a greeting, but a question stopped him that made him feel like a child. He kept his head down for a moment, avoiding her gaze to keep her from seeing both his blush and his scar. The scar along his eye was hard to ignore, but then again, why would she judge him? Looking back at her, he nodded his head with determination. "Hello! Ah, don't worry about it. I was here for only a moment before you came. My name is Kade, and yes, I am looking to get my first Pokémon!"
Grinning, he stood to follow the young woman. They walked into a small room, he following only a step behind his companion of the moment. All along the wall there were Pokéballs lined up but the woman went off to do something else, leaving him to choose a partner. Right? Or was he supossed to wait for her to give him instructions? Sighing and shaking his head, his eyes trailed over the writing below each ball. He spotted a ghost type, which he was interested in, as well as an ice type which captured his interest. No psychic types, but he was looking for a fire type. One that would clash with him because of his scar. His eyes trailed along the names until he spotted it. In big, bold letters, there it was. 'FEMALE CHARMANDER' written out in massive lettering. He reached to grab the ball and the second he came in contact with it, a jolt of something ran from his hand up through his arm. It felt like he'd become connected to it almost, like he he couldn't put the ball down. He released the clasp and a flash of light appeared before him. Then . . .
A red chameleon-like Pokémon. She looked up at him with massive eyes, determination glowing in the chocolate orbs. He smiled and bent down, reaching to pet her while she eyes him curiously. "I'll call you . . . Sirenia. Ren for short." Of course he just whispered his comment, but she seemed to hear perfectly. In fact, she nodded while he stroked her. Then, clearing his head, he stood to accept the pack from the girl, dazed by her words for a moment. "Thank you very much! For my pack and Pokémon, yeah, but I mean for the advice. At least that's a start for things I'll need to get." He chuckled to himself and nervously ran a hand through his white/silver hair. "What was your first Pokémon?" He was curious. Would it kill anyone to speak to him?

[ AIDE LUCY WINTERS ] Lucy watched the boy gain his new starter with a soft smile on her face. She remembered when she got her first Pokemon. It had actually been by Professor Redwood, before he got so old. As she watched, it was like she was reliving her moment in life. This happened whenever she introduced a new coordinator to their Pokemon, but she loved the feeling anyway. The boy, Kade, took his time choosing, but he wasn't at all hesitant when he seemed to find what he wanted. "A Charmander? That's a great choice," she said when the boy released the Pokemon, but she was sure he didn't hear her. She smiled when she saw the instant connection between the boy and the Pokemon. Sometimes that didn't happen, and it took a while for the two to click, but sometimes, it happened instantly, and that was when Lucy knew to keep an eye out for the coordinator, and that they'd do great.
"No problem," Lucy said, almost startled. Not most coordinators actually thanked her. They just took what she gave them and demanded to know when the Professor would next head off for Emerald Island. That was when she was more prone to tell them the wrong time. And even more unusual, he asked her a question. She didn't mind it actually: it was nice to make small talk. "I got an Azurill for my starter. By the time I decided to become one of Professor Redwood's aides, he evolved to an Azumarill." She would have let him out, but he was taking a rest at the moment, and wasn't in his Pokeball. She just expected the boy would know what an Azumarill was.
"Are there any specific Pokemon you'd like to see?" she asked, wanting to continue the small talk. Suddenly, as if she was remembering something important, she jolted and said, "Oh, the Professor should be coming back soon, and even then he'll leave about ten minutes after. Usually, he's on time, and he'll set off at 10:45 sharp. Just remember to be early enough." Lucy silently added, "Or otherwise, he'll leave without you." No need to scare the kid before he even met the Professor.
"Good luck on your journey."
[[ i expect you don't want to stay, so you're welcome to head off to emerald island if you want. c: ]]
