Anna had been dropped off at Emerald Island by Professor Redwood along with the other coordinators, and she had immediately headed off for the Bluebell Forest. That was how you got to Ivy Town, wasn't it? Straight through Bluebell Forest and Rain Shrine. That was what she thought, anyway. Waving goodbye and thanking the Professor, she was then swallowed up the by dense trees. She hadn't given a thought to the others really, much more intent on getting her Pokemon trained and leveled up. Adorable Celeste and hot-headed Herbert. Anna was determined to make them part of her first contest, no matter what other Pokemon she caught. After all, they were her first, she owed them that, didn't she?
Once she was far enough inside the forest, she paused to rummage in her bag. A little awkward, as it was her first time, she pulled out a Pokeball, enlarged it, and released the Pokemon inside. In a flash of light, the sphere opened and the light changed into her Cleffa, who spun around to look at her surroundings. "Cleffa?" she questioned, running up to touch a tree. With a smile, Anna scooped up the small Pokemon in her arms.
"You can't just go running off, Celeste," she said, continuing on down the forest. Anna had already found out that the little Pokemon was a curious one, always wanting to feel something or to see it closer. She had almost fallen through the railings in the boat, wanting to see what the water felt like. Anna had decided to return the Cleffa back to her Pokeball then. "You'll get lost, and I won't be able to find you." But it seemed like the Pokemon wasn't even listening to her words, swiveling her head to look around her, despite that all there was were trees and more trees. "This way, you can see, but you won't have to run off to see whatever you want to see."
To be honest, Anna had released Cleffa so that she didn't feel so alone in the forest. She would have released Herbert, but the Mareep would have gone romping off in a flash. She'd have to work with him. The two continued on that way, Ann cradling Celeste in her arms while the Cleffa turned to look this way and that. Eventually the Pokemon got bored and turned to play with the ruffles on Anna's dress instead. Anna couldn't see how the Pokemon was so at ease. It took all she had to calm herself. Walking alone in the forest with only a Cleffa to protect you was a little unnerving. &&_kovu t. usagi ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Kovu—with two newly received Pokéballs in tow—shipped off with captain Ben Redwood to the well-populated Emerald Island. After his departure from the dock, he had been glad Lucy—yes, the prissy little woman—had tended to him. Ben seemed to be a bit...ornery. Maybe he wasn't always that way. Besides, Kovu could have possibly annoyed him by asking if they had arrived yet every five minutes. But how could he pass up such an opportunity? It was a classic; he was even soef2e2ert of surprised the captain hadn't found it funny himself. I feel sorry people with a lack of humor. How can you get past in life without being able to laugh at it? Kovu shook his head in wonderment as he ventured through the thickly wooded Bluebell Forest. All the while the same lyrics were crossing his lips, “My lips're like sugar, my lips're like sugar~” The damn song Sugar had been playing on the radio of some girl's boombox, and now it was lodged into Kovu's sponge-like brain. Finally, he switched things up by murmuring, “Where the hell am I going anyway?” Kovu may've been to find his way around Onyx Harbour, but this landscape was alien to him. He wasn't even one-hundred-percent sure whether was even heading in the general direction of the town. There had been a map laying out Emerald Island on the ship that Kovu had passed several times...but never bothered to actually scan. He was sort of regretting it now. “Maybe my new Pokemon'll be able to sniff our way to...civilization.” This particular species had a good sense of smell anyway. Just as good as a Growlithe. Hell, some officers even ran around with them in tow! Kovu would know, too. In one swift motion, Kovu retrieved the desired Pokéball and tossed it out, the white and crimson sphere clattering against the ground with a 'chink'. Upon bouncing back, a dazzling red light shot like electricity from it, shaping into some strange form before Kovu. It's use fulfilled, the Pokéball fell back toward the master, Kovu prompting to shrink it and store it upon his belt. The shape that had been in the middle of formation shaped into a familiar shape to Kovu. “Tototototototodile!” The Totodile danced about on his left foot, jaws locking continuously to express his excitement. Kovu stared for a long moment, before chuckling wholeheartedly. How epic! He crouched before the Totodile, resting his hands upon his thighs. After a short pause to let the Totodile calm down, Kovu smiled. “Hey there, buddy. I'm Kovu,” greeted the coordinator, turning his grin into something lopsided, “You're with me from now on...Donryu.” Totodile returned Kovu's long stare until he crouched as well, resting his tiny paws upon his stubby legs and stated, “Totodile.” Almost in the same friendly tone as the original. Kovu laughed out loud, patting the water type between the eyes gently. “This is the birth of a beautiful relationship, I can feel it.” Donryu mustered his own mighty cackle, then nodded in agreement.
Suddenly remembering his ordeal, Kovu then ordered, “Alright, Donryu. Lead us out of here.” Donryu merely blinked back at his trainer, tilting his head yet again in confusion. Kovu face palmed, the sharp echo nearly bouncing off the pines and back at him and Donryu. Then it came to him, so he snapped. “Oh yeah, that's right! I've got to have some sort of map in my handy-dandy starter pack!” Now hopeful, Kovu slung the pack from his back and began rifling through it, Donryu filing closer in order to gaze into its depths with great curiosity at all the neat doohickeys and artifacts. Finally, the young man pinpointed the map and pulled it from beneath the clutter, quickly popping it open in order to read it. “Okay, so if the docks here, and we set off this way, then we must be here. If I'm reading this damn thing right, then the town should be that-a-way.” Kovu stopped mumbling and looked up to look in the general location. Reassured of his destination, he stored the map back into his pack and mused, “Alright, I've done it, I've figured it out! Off we go, Donryu~” As Kovu set off, Donryu danced after him with much enthusiasm, almost tripping him because of his quick actions. However Kovu didn't mind, he enjoyed the bubbly company. After a short period of trekking, Kovu heard something, Donryu being the first to react. He instantly quit what he was doing—humming a random tone—and searched for an answer. Finally, behind two rather large maple trees, the duo caught sight of a female, a puffy throw-pillow trailing along with her. It didn't take long for Kovu to realize it was Anna, the stiff he had met back at Onyx Harbour. “Well look who it is!” whispered Kovu, looking through a pair of shrubs. Donryu joined him, his crocodile muzzle and eyes sticking from within the bush's depths. After a while of devising a devilish plan, the two hopped in front of the travel females, shouting loudly and flailing about like maniacs. Finally, the two ceased, having a good laugh afterward. They couldn't even stop laughing in order to say something clever, like “gotcha!” or “suckers!”. Nope, instead the two collapsed to the floor, their sides splitting at the seams. Soon, Kovu managed to get a hold of himself, gently tapping the still-rolling Totodile with a finger. The two got up and approached Anna and her Cleffa, Kovu wiping away a tear and chuckling, “If only I had had a camera, right Donryu?” Donryu nodded his agreement, grinning mischievously at the Cleffa. Not waiting for a sharp retort, Kovu quickly added, “Fancy meeting the likes of you out here, Anna. I trust things are going well.” He aimed for his best British impersonation.

The forest was so quiet, Anna hardly believed that there really were wild Pokemon roaming about. Eventually, she calmed down, and it just felt like a stroll in the park. Even Celeste had managed to fall asleep in her arms. But then something burst out of the bushes in front of her, screaming and raving. It would have scared anyone, but Anna seemed to jump out of her shoes and about a foot into the air, screaming bloody murder. Her scream was shrill, and seemed to echo in the forest, disturbing just about any Pokemon within earshot. Celeste woke up because of her screaming, and when the Cleffa caught sight of the boy and his Totodile, she jolted a little, but that was it. Silly Anna, it was only a boy. Eventually, Anna calmed down, but her expression soon turned dark. Anyone would have been scared, but Anna wouldn't have been scared as bad as she had been if she hadn't already been a little unnerved in the first place. Really. But either way, that boy had no right to go running about, screaming at anyone he saw. Seething, she stood watching the two roll around on the ground, laughing and looking like complete idiots.
"What is your problem?" Anna demanded, steering far from her usually calm demeanor. She ignored what he said before, and instead, starting ranting: "You have no right to go around scaring people just because you feel like it. It's disgusting behavior. Disrespectful. And on top of that, you shouldn't act like the world revolves around you, because it doesn't. Whatever happened to you as a child, you need to learn to get over it." Her scolding became a little more heartless as she went on, but she had had enough of this boy. Despite that she'd only really been in his presence for less than a total of five minutes, she started liking him less and less. Her Cleffa, though, didn't seem to think the same. Celeste had somehow managed to get out of her arms and onto the ground, where she stared at the Totodile, almost blankly. Then she stepped forward, hands out, ready to try and grab at the blue Pokemon. "Cleffa!"
Anna opened her mouth to continue her belittling of Kovu, but when she did, no words came out, and instead, her expression turned pained. What was usually the dull pain at her chest turned into a pang, and the feeling of pins and needles started at her chest and started to spread out throughout her body. She seemed to forget all about Kovu, and concentrated on the pain. One hand gripping at her chest, she quickly started ransacking her bag, until she came out with a small plastic bottle filled with what sounded like pills. Hand shaking, she managed to take out two pills, white and round. Anna quickly dry-swallowed them, and thought calming thoughts until her breathing slowed and wasn't as harsh anymore. Throughout it, she had managed to end up on the ground and leaning against a tree, exhausted. She hated these episodes. All because some stupid problem with her heart, she couldn't do anything. Even her dream of becoming a trainer had been crushed by her stupid heart. If she couldn't even pass her first day as a coordinator, what was she good for?
Almost as soon as Anna started having her episode, Celeste tore her attention from the Totodile and quickly managed to find her way to Anna's side. "Cleffa," the Pokemon crooned, gently nuzzling her head into Anna's arm. Cleffa was just about as confused as everyone else was, but she knew it wasn't time to question it right now. Anna needed to be comforted, not harassed.

&&_kovu t. usagi ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As the laughing episode faded away, the shrill cry Anna had released still echoed throughout the piney forest, seeming to ring loudly in Kovu's ear in particular. Call it foreshadowing, but Kovu ignored it, merely rubbing his ear and nonchalantly staring at Anna. The Cleffa barricaded by her thin arms struggled out of her grasp and danced toward Donryu, quickly losing interest in Anna's fright. That was rather amusing. The newborn Cleffa was taking the whole 'joke' more maturely than her trainer, who had had about sixteen years of experience. However it was not detectable, for she went into this long rant about how it wasn't Kovu's right to run about scaring random coordinators. “Well I bet half of them wouldn't react the way you are now,” mumbled Kovu, rolling his eyes toward the ground. He knew very well Anna couldn't have heard him, she was too caught up in her own lecture. How old did she think she was anyway? By the looks of things, Kovu was probably older than her, even by a few minutes. Maybe he was letting her get away with this because he was use to enduring long ass speeches, tailored by policemen or rangers, thinking they were actually making a difference in this young man's mind. Well, if only they were able to see where he was now. Anna seemed to let up though as her precious Cleffa danced over to his Totodile. She made grabby hands toward the crocodilian, Donryu merely staring at the pink puffball in response. There wasn't much else he would do. He was too mesmerized by Cleffa herself; this was the first other Pokémon he had ever encountered, and her scent intrigued him. Kovu, losing interest, looked back to Anna, who had seemed to stop because of her severed connection with Cleffa. Though it didn't cause her to stifle her speech much longer, for she immediately opened her mouth yet again to throw in another string of words. Kovu half expected them to be insults. If the ritzy girl wasn't above them, of course.
But after a short heartbeat, Kovu heard nothing, only witnessing Anna's face turn bone white. She clawed at her chest before relying on better judgment and lunging for her pack. From within it she pulled out what appeared to be pills. She hungrily took them as if she had been starved, without water, too! It made Kovu feel like a child whenever he had to take his vitamins. Anna collapsed upon on the ground, leaning up against a large pine, breathing terribly hard and sweat falling from her face. What just happened!? Kovu slowly edged forward, arms stretched out as if he were about to do something useful. Cleffa was the first to act, however, frantically padding over to her partner, Donryu already in the past. It was just then when something within Kovu's mind clicked. Whatever it had been caused him to dash for Anna, kneeling before her, looking her up and down anxiously. What should he do? What could he do? His hands hovered over Anna's seemingly-frail figure, scared to touch her as if she'd bust within his grasp. Finally, he stuttered, “W-Wh-what just happened? Are you alright? What should I do? Should I take you to a hospital?!” Questions were rifling through Kovu's mouth faster than he could register them. Donryu quickly followed after Kovu, pressing his cold paw to Anna's sweltering forehead. “Toto,” stated Donryu, before letting a soft trickle of water leak from his jaws. Kovu quickly clamped his Pokémon's muzzled shut, having to use both arms fully in order to add up to the Totodile's mighty jowl strength. “No, Donryu!” After a short period of resistance, the Totodile gave up and moved aside, allowing a calmer Kovu to step forward. At a loss of words, he simply stated, “...Anna...I'm..s-sorry, I didn't think...” That was always it, though. He didn't think, never did think. It was just action. Well look where that had gotten him.

Anna hated this. She hated that she couldn't even yell at someone without collapsing. She couldn't walk far distances, she couldn't run or jump around. Her stupid heart. Anna used to blame the doctor who helped her mother through the pregnancy for not picking it up sooner, but in the end, she ended up blaming her heart instead, when she felt the need to pin the blame on something else. Anna sat quietly for a moment; the pills always tended to put her out of it for a while. When everything started to come into focus, she was rather surprised to be face to face with the boy. She had expected him to have bolted, afraid that he had caused it. It seemed she was wrong in thinking that he would have run away, but she was right when she expected him to think it was his fault. This always happened, really, and it ended up in two ways. The one that seemed to happen more often was when the other frantically asked questions, bringing up "hospital" and "medicine" or just panicking in gibberish. Anna wished she knew how to tell them that it wasn't their fault, it was her heart.
Anna shifted her position, and let out a hoarse cough. To be honset, she hadn't caught any of his questions. She saw him asking, but she hadn't actually heard any of it. The pills always worked differently each time, and when everything finally focused, it was always in a different order. "It's fine," she started, before enduring a small coughing fit, "It's my heart, not you." Her voice was empty, almost strained, but once she cleared her throat once more, she seemed to be a little better. Anna took her time getting up, though, as her entire body felt like it had fallen asleep. The pain her her chest turned into that familiar dull feeling, and with each slow breath, feeling returned to the rest of her body. Making small noises, Celeste pulled herself into Anna's lap, and it was just then that she remembered the Pokemon. With a smile, she softly pet the Cleffa's ears, receiving soft coos in return. Anna was surprised when she felt something cool against her forehead, although she calmed down when she half-saw, half-heard the Totodile. She was about to tell the Water Pokemon that she was okay when she felt water dribble down her head. She jumped at the initial shock, but calmed quickly.
When Kovu scolded his Totodile, Anna let out a sigh. People needed to just believe her when she said that everything was okay. "It's fine!" she said, her voice stronger and much more insisting. To try and further prove her point, she started to pull herself up--literally. She had to really lean against the tree, almost dragging herself up, but she did it, and it wasn't long until she was standing up. Celeste had managed to hop off before Anna straightened up, and she still had a worried look in her eyes as she looked up at her trainer. "See? Perfectly healthy and as good as new." She even managed to take her hand off the tree, balancing quite well on both her feet and smiling. But then he apologized, and Anna knew that he really meant the apology, and despite acting like a five year old just ten minutes ago, he could act his age when he wanted to. She was about to reassure him again, when the head rush caught up to her, and she slowly blinked, getting horribly dizzy.
"You don't need to apologize, it's n--!" she started, but got cut off when she seemed to trip over thin air and fall toward Kovu.
