The bottom line was that if she wanted to have any hope of surviving this region, she had to get a pokemon.
There was way too many threats out there without one; other pokemon, bad humans, natural disasters, and even an evil team, just like how there was Team Galactic in Sinnoh. Thinking in great depth like this came like a second nature to Courtney; it was the girl's pessimistic attitude that brought her down. Her main fear was the limited supply of pokemon available to give away. Most regions only had a choice of three; a grass type, a water type, and a fire type. She knew that grass was probably the best kind to go with; but the reason she was not too keen on picking one was because they were weak against her fear; bug pokemon. So, of course, grass was a no go.
But if she had the choice, it would be a Pichu, just like the ones she had seen on television as a child. They had always been one of her favorite pokemon; soft, gentle natures, and even softer bright yellow fur. They were also mainly Courtney's favorite color; yellow. But would a little, timid Pichu be the best choice? Well, she considered the options. Pichu was an electric type pokemon; they were highly effective against bug pokemon, and they didn't have many weaknesses, which would prove to be effective during battle. Courtney could think of two common natural disasters; thunderstorms and flash floods. Well, a Pichu's electric type would mean that it could easily survive a flash flood. And thunderstorms? Although she was somewhat startled by them, Pichu could draw lightning to it's tail, and could store the powerful energy for later, kind of like a volt absorb ability.
Pichu's gentle, timid nature would make it easy to raise. Courtney had to admit she was not that stubborn towards pokemon, so she honestly didn't want a pokemon that would train her. Pichu also didn't require much grooming at all, unless it purposely jumped into a mud puddle or something. Even then, she doubted that it would; the mud would weaken its electricity. Plus, Pichu was also a rather quick pokemon... hmm.
Now, Courtney was seriously hoping that the lab would have a Pichu for her. A little submissive female Pichu... one that she could love and trust, and spend the rest of her days with, even if it did evolve. Or, perhaps she could purchase an everstone collar... it sure would look pretty with some sort of accessory. Gently tapping her fingers against the smooth surface of her glowstick necklace, she nodded her head left and right, shaking the thought away. "No way. Mum gave this to me; I can't just give it away to a pokemon." Trashing the idea, she gingerly looked over, eyeing the hot, white sands and the gentle crystal water that lapped at them. Courtney instantly began to think of what she would write in her journal tonight. "My eyes simply shimmered as I watched the water, the sun's rays making it sparkle in an array of droplets splashing as children splashed about in their happiness." Yes. That sounded perfect, she thought to herself. Nodding away this thought, and storing it in the back of her mind for later, she could see a towering white building in the faint distance; a large, spinning ball rested on top of the pillar on the metal roof. She watched it for a few seconds, before letting her tired legs jog her the rest of the way uphill. She finally stopped at a large white sign smack in front of the building, and eyed a list of the starters that were pasted with pictures on the sign, ordered from least rare to most rare. And then, her eyes lit up with glee as she became ecstatic about the fact that she sawPichu way down on the list. But, as she eyed the writing underneath all the pictures, she began to debate with herself.
"SOME POKEMON HERE AT THE LAB MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE BECAUSE OF THEIR RARITY. POKEMON MAY VARY."
Sighing to herself, she pushed the glass door open, and gingerly stepped inside. She had trouble acting normal when she was nervous. Hopefully, the people here would mistake it as nervousness from getting her first pokemon.
Ah, well. She remembered what she was here for; a little female Pichu. But she remembered they had been way down there on the rarity list... and with such a pessimistic attitude, it was hard for the girl to keep her chin up. Still, a flicker of nothing but pure hope lit up inside of her. Hope that they would have one, just for her.

[**LUCY WINTERS**]
Lucy pouted at the amount of paperwork on her desk. She had been away for the past few days, and the result? This. She frowned and sifted through a few. Most of them were easy, but words hurt Lucy's eyes and she did not like words at all. Sighing forlornly, she decided she would try and convince Kai to help her with the work; her smile always did do something. Deciding on doing something fun and yet something that helped the lab, she smiled at her Azumarill and motioned to go to the Pokemon Storage Room. As they traipsed down the hallway, Lucy smiled. She wondered how long it would take for a new coordinator to arrive. She loved distributing Pokemon, for it was something that she loved to do and would help her calm down for her paperwork.
As she reached the end of the corridor, she turned into the storage room and found a small cabinet to the side of the room. Reaching inside, she grabbed three random Pokeballs and then, with Azumarill still following her, she made her way to the training room. Training Pokemon for the coordinators was fun; she loved watching the young Pokemon flop around, not good at anything. Her job was to train them to Level 5, and then put them into the real distributing cabinet. She'd let them battle each other while she observed their temperaments and their stats, and then once they reached the right level, she would place them into the right cabinet and they would await their new coordinators. This morning she released three of the newcomers: a Totodile, a Pichu, and a Treeko. Funny three. She spent the entire morning training them, until finally she was exhausted and decided to go back and take a break. The Professor would be pleased with her work. As she was walking back to the storage room, she heard the pattering of footsteps most likely from a coordinator, however, and rushed to the main room of the lab, Azumarill trying to keep up.
"Hi there!" she said breathlessly, "Welcome to the lab! I assume you're here for your first Pokemon?"
The girl was rather strange to say the least. To sum it all up, the most noticeable things about her were her glasses and that weird wolf stuffed animal. Lucy shrugged.
Her hands balanced the three balls precariously on the tips of her fingers, but she was excited and pepped up. She moved her head gently, almost indistinguishable, but Azumarill got the message and skipped off to the cupboard where the Starter Packs were.
