It was so serene; the white sand, the black waters, the paint dappled sky. Everything seemed perfect, but the flawlessness had an eerie stillness about it. There was no movement of the black waters, no cloud floating across the sky, no rustle in the sand from various Krabby scurrying across it surface; there was not a flaw. There also seemed to be no wind, but how could that happen, on a place surrounded by water? The only movement was the watcher’s rising chest, moving up and down with each breath taken. The watcher was astounded; this perfection was impossible, yet so beautiful. He wanted to throw his hands up in satisfaction, but had no will to ruin the perfection of the situation; even her breath was somehow destroying the serenity, in some disturbing way. It seemed that this stillness--this perfection—was more than still; the word dead crept into the water’s mind. Dead. The island was not dead, no, it was just still, perfect, beautiful but not dead. The grim word stuck in the watcher’s mind, but he resisted the urge to accept it. He fought the urge, and continued to admire the stillness, but something interrupted her admiration. This something was about as loud as a pen dropping, but in the stillness, that one simple sound was louder than a full orchestra. The watcher turned, annoyed at what had destroyed his peaceful beach, and saw it was nothing but a chess piece.
A chess piece…? On the beach…? No, that was not possible! The watched leaned over to inspect the chess piece, a small ocean colored king. He lifted it up, but then dropped it to the ground, for he heard another soft clunk against the sandy shore. He walked over to where the noise had rang, and found another chess piece, and laid it beside the ocean colored king. This piece was a freighting yellow queen who bore a yellow so bright it shone against the pale white beach; this piece, however, refused to be laid next to the ocean blue king piece. The watcher began to form a word with his lips but was quickly stopped by another ping. This time it was a knight so red it appeared to be on fire. The boy then put this near the other two chess pieces and sat down, a moment later another piece fell from the cloudless sky. This piece was white, white like ice, and like the previous piece, was also a knight. This piece was drawn to the yellow and red piece, like a magnet to a piece of magnetic material. Oddly enough as it moved toward the red piece another piece dropped out of the sky. This piece, however, was nothing but a helpless pawn and was a warm shade of beige.
The watcher, astonished, watched the items move out of their own free will, and then suddenly they began to grow. Then from under the watcher’s feet, a chessboard appeared and soared into the air. The watcher’s feet were spread apart underneath his body and he was standing in the air and he was on the chessboard, in the tower’s position. He peered over the line of chess pieces and saw, on the other end, his Mawile standing in her position, but on the other side, however she didn’t look like his Mawile. Her appearance was ghostly and apathetic, her usual smile wiped from her face. Quite obviously, the watcher was in a fit of terror, for as he observed the chessboard, dark figures appeared on the other side, dark figures with ominous frightful auras. What did this mean? Chess pieces…? Falling from the sky? The watcher stared in terror as a complicated game of chess ensued around him. Then as the dark king appeared next to him, but out of his reach he screamed and ran, falling off the chessboard and into the dark, calm, flawless waters.
Jayden woke with a startled look upon his face, confusion wrinkling across him in waves. Before his eyes even opened, none the less. Mumbling something to himself, his hands moved up to his eyes, which he rubbed simultaneously. As he stirred, the porcelain blue eyes he'd carried all his life opening up to the bright sun hitting him. He was in a building since the walls around him were obviously there, but a window was the source of light. Moaning, the boy swung his legs from the bed and combed a hand through his hair. How hygenic, right? He slipped into a dark green t-shirt and some tan cargo shorts without really moving his feet and yawned, finally getting some much needed air into his system. Around the bed he'd been lying on was nothing more than a crate with his pack on it. Oh! He'd been staying at the wharf for a bit, helping a fisherman out before he had to leave so he could make a few extra bucks before he left. He moved toward the pack, not bothering to make the old bed he had slept on, and noticed the white paper note attached to it. Kid - Left to go hunt down some Magikarp. Good luck, wherever you go. Sighing, he stuffed the note into his pack and began to walk.
Pushing open the door to the shed in the back of the main house, he headed toward the lab which he'd passed numerous times on his expeditions. Today was the day. He and his unnamed Mawile would soon be getting the next team mate and the two of them were rather excited. A small smirk appeared on his face, rare for the boy, but it disappeared quickly when he saw the ferry. It was packed with kids. Heck, kids were hanging out the windows to get a better look at the ocean, while other clung to their seats for dear life. How interesting the ride to Emerald Island would be... Sighing, he shook his head and scuffed the ground with his feet. A confident look upon his face, he pushed open the door of the lab and sat down on the nearest love seat, not thinking about anything as he moved. Why bother? It would come and kick him in the rump eventually. Besides, he'd woken up to late to have any say in if he'd even get his Pokémon because of him being late!

aide kai richard Mister Kai Richard hadn't exactly been in the lab all morning. In fact, shortly after his break at nine, he'd run to his fishing boat and taken it out for a sail. It was too bad that only now, around noon time, was that boat coming back in to shore. The Magikarp had all swarmed to the eastern end of the harbour, opposite to where he was. It wasn't a lucky day for him apparently, but at least Golduck seemed to be enjoying it. The Pokémon relaxed on the deck, gazing up at the sky with his knowing eyes. Chuckling at the creature's behavior, he turned the wheel of the boat and moved it quickly into its space along the dock. His Golduck seemed to know when it was time to get up and throw the rope over to the tie on the dock, so the team worked quickly and efficiently to get the job done in under two minutes. It had to have been a new record! Smiling at their success, he gave the fishing boat a once-over before starting back toward the lab. The good thing was, the lab wasn't all that far away. If it weren't near the ferry, all the munchkins would get confused and dart off in every other direction.
Golduck came to the door before he did, opening it and striding in before he could spot the teenage boy plopped on a love seat. Surprise lit his face when he spotted the kid, though, and he cheerily held up a hand as a wave. "Hello there, boy! You here for your first Pokémon?" Knowing the answer before he asked the question, he shut the door hastily behind him and started down the hall to the room where all the Pokéballs were kept. Knowing the boy could hear him no matter where he was at, he gave everything a check to make sure he hadn't been snooping. The kid looked rather devious in that manner, he had to say. "They're all labeled, take your pick!"

The 'boy' was hardly happy with the arrival of the boisterous sailor. The man protruded through the door with such gusto that one may have believed he was president. Wishing to snort at the thought, Jayden rolled his eyes and stood up, brushing his pant legs off like they now had some kind of germ on them. There was a flu running around this season after all. Fall was his favorite season, though. There was something spectacular about Halloween and the chilly autumn nights that made him feel better. Like he wasn't just a mannequin and he was alive. Besides that, who didn't enjoy being scared out of their wits? Or scaring other people in his case. Curiously, he eyed the man before he even spoke. He was wet with sea spray, for the smell lit up the lab like gasoline did to a gas station. The man appeared to have been an expert sailor in his younger years, and still appeared to have the confidence of one now. Wasn't he broken like all the rest of them? To Jay, there was really no point in it any more. He just needed to get his Pokémon and go. That was all there was to it. In fact, why was he bothering with pondering over these simple questions?
His shaggy blue hair fell in his eyes and he shot a quick glance over at the Golduck that had been the first to walk into the lab. It was so pretty... So strong. It had a glow to it, like Kai and the Golduck had a bond that was about as unbreakable as himself. There was another question on his mind, but he ignored it. Instead, he nodded to the aide and began to follow after him. No, he was here to see the Queen of England. Why else was he going to be at a Pokémon lab?! Grinding his teeth together, he moved quickly and without making a noise. He was incredibly good at not making a noise when he moved. Maybe it was a practiced art since he'd snuck out of the house so many times when he was younger. Like when he caught his first Pokémon. A Caterpie... Longing filled his eyes but he attempted to blink it away in fear of it showing in his piercing blue orbs. He'd left the old life behind. Ellis was now Jayden and everything was going according to plan so far. He even had his first Pokémon now! York and Jade were to be forgotten. As he stepped into the room lined with Pokéballs, he looked around in astonishment. It wasn't what he'd expected.
Ignoring whatever Kai was doing, he browsed over the ball collection, eyeing the tags under them with little to no interest. He knew what kind of Pokémon were good for he and his Mawile's team. But... He couldn't pick on just that. He had to just know. "Mind if I let my Mawile out?" Not caring about what his answer was too much, he released the ball that was clasped to his belt and watched as the pretty femme unwound from her rest. He pointed to the wall and she stood in front of it, holding out her stubby arm to each of the balls. She touched them gently and only one or two wiggled back, much to his amusement. But her hand stopped pracariously over only one of them. She looked at him and nodded, then grabbed that ball and threw it up toward him. Bending to catch it and glaring at her for her carelessness, he hed the ball firmly for a moment. It was soothing for some reason... He nodded, knowing this was it no matter what. Opening the ball, a stream of red light poured out to reveal a tiny male Mudkip. Water was perfect for the team. Smiling, he bent to stroke the creature almost unknowingly. Only after a few moments of sharing the greeting did he turn back to look at the aide, only now wondering what he thought of the decision.

aide kai richard Kai opened up a drawer and threw five balls in, hoping he counted everything correctly. Usually, he was so much mroe efficient, but the kid was bothering him a bit. Loudly, he started to whistle, the bag he was about to hand over about half full. With a smile on his face he looked up for a moment, watching the lanky boy gaze over all the choices. He mumbled a barely audible question to him, obviously not caring what his answer was. For all he cared, the sailor could have told him that it was the most blasphemous thing ever and that anyone who released a Pokémon into the building would be kicked out immediately, though it was obvious he'd still just be ignored. A pretty Mawile appeared only a millisecond after he released it, her body obviously in perfect started condition. She seemed to have a glow to her . . .
Smiling at the kid's method for choosing a partner, he threw the bag up on the table and watched, waiting until he could break in. Jayden actually smiled, which was surprising since he'd been scowling only a moment before. And the Mawile paused right over a ball with her stubby paw, obvious to him that it was a Mudkip. With a snort, he nodded at the kid. His team would be pieced together well. Waiting until the intro was over, he slowly stood up with the pack in hand. "Be careful with that boy; he's a fiesty little thing! Here's your backpack. It has everything you need to start off in it. With any luck, you'll be a top coordinator in no time. Good luck, kid. And want a piece of advice? Cheer up. Life goes on."
