Jayden huffed slightly, the cool breeze flowing through the forest ruffling his hair. Autumn was upon them and the signs were literally just... everywhere. The trees were on fire, or so it appeared. Red and orange leaves were everywhere, yellow and green hues completely disappearing. Fall was the best season of all in his opinion. There was just nothing better than having the cool breeze blowing on a harvest moon-lit night. It was eerie, but Halloween was so, so fun. Who didn't love it? Even he, master of being unbudgable, would give in to go do something on a nice fall night. Too bad it was just about sunhigh, noon soon approaching with a violent force. Bluebell Forest seemed to go on forever and his two Pokémon were having trouble keeping up with him. Or so he thought. Little did he know, the two were out frolicking in th eleaves with some wild creatures, probably acting just like Jade and York did back when he had those two. Ah, yes, the Buterfree was so kind... How he missed the things was always to be a secret.
With a gentle sigh, he pulled a hand through his blue locks of hair and lifted his head, blue egaze landing on the stones ahead of him. Ahead, there was a break in the trees. A small waterfall pounded down into a creek and a stone monument stood, old and delapadated, but still standing. Curious, he picked up the pace and tilted his head, never once bothering to think about any Pokémon that would be nearby. Intrigued, he reached out to touch the shrine. It was... Nice. Halo and Rapture would be pleased to see this! He whistled, not bothering to speak because he didn't feel like it. The Mawile came flying out from the bushes, running at full speed toward him with a Mudkip behind her. Those two were just loving the fact that they were together. Talk about all too friendly. He rolled his eyes - they were such a big family. Too close for comfort, but it was all for the better. Besides, maybe it was good for them to become closer together.
Jay put his hand on the monument and looked around, the only thing catching his eye was the water. Sighing, he pulled his hand away and looked down to the stream, tilting his head as he walked until his reflection was visible. What was wrong with him? Why did he feel so odd lately? With a a gentle glance at himself, he turned again, facing his two team members this time. They were so odd... How he was lucky enough to get them, he'd never know. He always loved oddballs, especially since he was one of them.

It had been such a nice time to come out recently! With Autumn around, everything was fun and dandy. Yes, dandy. The dark Pokémon absolutely adored it out - how could one not? I was almost Halloween, too, which mean mroe time to scare the poor coordinators around the parts of the forest they should have been avoiding. Smirking to herself, the Sableye moved soundlessly through her forest. It was indeed her forest after all. No trainers had been out lately - just sounlessness and the rustling of trees. See, most were smart enough to stay out of her way. She had a way of putting up a big fight when necessary - like when her food was stolen. It wasn't like she ate anything but minerals, but it was annoying when one took a rock and threw it, calling her a nuisance and various other things. Rather annoying indeed.
As she moved, a flash of movement caught her eye. A trainer. It was obvious from the colored hair. Moving closer, she realized what was happening. He put a hand on the Rain Shrine. He touched it. The sacred monument. A howl erupted from her mouth and she barged toward him, rushing past and stopped jus shy of the bushes his Pokémon had erupted from. Either they battled or she'd take him down with her bare claws. This was uncalled for and unnecessary. How many times did they have to warn the people to get away?

How many coordinators could say that their Pokémon helped train each other? Or make each other shine? Not many, that was for sure. Halo and Rapture did just that whenever they were togeher, happy as could be. Halo seemed oblivious to the fact that she would be a battle Pokémon no matter what, preening herself until her whole body shook in delight. And Rapture seemed to just enjoy life. The easy-going Pokémon was hard not to love. Well, love was a word Jay refused to use anymore. When he'd connected with his previous Pokémon, he ended up having to leave them with an elderly man that could barely walk let alone exercise two incredibly powerful creatures. He'd basically grown too attached too quickly. He'd made a mistake in doing that and it felt like it was a mistake to come to the Golden Islands at the moment. What was he really trying to prove? That he could be a coordinator? That he could show his dad who he hoped he'd never see again who was boss? No, there had to be something deeper than that. Something even he didn't understand.
With a disgruntled sigh, he turned to look behind him at where he'd heart some noises. A slight movement was obvious, but then nothing. Was he being followed? No, no one would bother with him. But... Answering his questions, a Sableye shot out from the bushes and directly toward him, swooping around and stopping at the place where his Pokémon first entered from. Determination lit its ruby eyes as it glared at him, leaving Jayden to glare back. All he could do was that. Stand and glare. Where were his two team members when he needed them? It would be a perfec battle for Rapture! And needless to say, the dark ghost Pokémon was a perfect asset to a team. It would be unique to have the Mawile and Sableye, but he could pull it off if he could catch the thing. It was the first Pokémon to really give up a challenge. But why? Maybe because he'd gotten too close to the Rain Shrine. That was legitimate. He let out a long, low whistle and listened. He needed his team now. Halo could watch while he battled it out for the first time.
The small blue and yellow water Pokémon came running out a second after his whistle stopped, the Mawile following him slowly after he began to direct on what to do. "Are you ready, Rapture? This is a ghost and dark Pokémon, so we need some strength behind the moves, okay? Start off with a tackle - no, wait... Rapture, you're of no use in this battle. You have to level up some more first, okay? Halo! Come here!" The female looked up at him with shock in her eyes while Rapture tried to headbutt her out. All he knew was tackle and growl - normal moves that wouldn't prove to be effective against a Sableye. "Halo, use astonish on the Sableye! Hide in the shadows of the shrine if you can, but make sure you spook him with your 'double eyes'!" Halo nodded her head, the back snapping open and shut quickly as if to say yes. She slunk low to the ground and whipped aound the shrine twice before moving from view. Even she couldn't hide in he shadows well for long, though. Too bad it was impossible to notice her jump to the top of the shrine, not caring what happened to it. She leapt down onto the Sableye, eyes alight, and grabbed onto it with a powerful squeeze before jumping away.

As she gazed at the boy, listening in on what he said to his dumb Pokémon, she noticed something rather unusual. He was insinuating that a level five water creature with two normal moves would attack her. That would do nothing! And obvious smile curled up onto her face, masking he resentment in her shiny red eyes. There was no reason to get all worked up over nothing, though. She just stared, trying her hardest to let him make the first move. She waited and just as he started to mumble off some commands, he cut himself short and told his Mawile to go in. This meant an actual battle! With a sigh of sadness, she braced herself, watching with intent eyes. This wouldn't be too hard, just tiring... She hoped. She was strong, but together, the team equaled probably around ten levels. Not good for her, though the Mudkip would be rather useless no matter what it was used for...
Eyes flashed as she started to watch the Mawile dart all aruond the Rain Shrine, taunting her to meet the other femme in a vicious fight. But alas, where did she go? On top of the Shrine! Not like she noticed until the dumb thing was on top of her, squeezing her in a surprising attack. It cut her arms up pretty good, scatching her in enough places to make herself look injured. Shocked, she couldn't move. Where had that come from? Why had it happened? She attempted to strike out but became confused as to why she would hurt the thing for doing nothing. Hm... Something really was wrong. Frowning, she pulled herself together and flung forward, aiming for a scratch right on the Mawile's second head. This wouldn't be a long battle, that was for sure. With all thoughts secured in her mind, the Sableye couldn't help but think of the homes she could have had rather than being a wild Pokémon. Was giving up freedom really worth being a trainer's Pokémon? Insecurity flashed in her eyes for the briefest second before disappearing behind her mask.

Battle. What a word. He'd battled many times before, though very few were with Pokémon. He'd battled illness before - who hadn't? He'd battled parental issues and death, all while dealing with realizing things that mattered were so far away from recognition! Life was so terribly confusing... What would happen if, Arceus forbid, his Pokémon were knocked out and he had to flee the forest? That would have been both embarassing and frightening. Even kids like Jayde could get scared, of course. He didn't want to get attacked and he was sure his Pokémon preferred to be awake. Battling with this pair would be rather tough, but it would even out eventually. If he got some more Pokémon, that is. Mawile was dark and Mudkip was water, so the two were different, but didn't really clash together. What would have been perfect for them was a fire type Pokémon, but what could he do to choose? He should have gotten a fire starter, maybe... But then again, Rapture was absolutely amazing. He wouldn't give the creature up before he even gave him a chance! Smirking at the thought of it all, he narrowed his eyes as he prepared himself for a battle.
Halo had been perfect with her astonish, for it seemed to make the Sableye a bit confused. It repaired itself, though, and flung itself forward at his first Islands Pokémon. "Confuse it, Halo!" His Pokémon looked at the Sableye as she flung toward her, her back touching the Rain Shrine. Just as the Sableye lashed out, she sidestepped, a claw only catching her massive set of jaws and leaving it to run smack into the stone shrine. Of course, it could always make itself transparent if it caught what was going to happen and just pass through the Shrine... Frowning, he turned his full attention back to Halo, who darted back in front of him, where she had started off. What to do? It was almost impossible to tell what was going to happen. Where had his ability of perception gone? Why was he so confused about everything? Life seemed to be happening in a daze, going from on thing to the next in a movie-like fashin. There was day. There was night. Sleep. Nightmares. Waking and walking. Nothing in between. No emotion to fill him like it usually would, even when in a bad mood.
"Okay, use astonish again!" Jayden moved his arm straight out, spreading his fingers as if to point in the general direction of where she should move. Halo darted forward, preparing herself to make a loud entrance. But suddenly, a crack in the air made him look up. Thunder. A storm was approaching them, rain telling him he needed to go back to Emerald Island before the light started to disappear. He still had time, though, and it wasn't over yet. Actually, he still had to get a good battle for Rapture in before the rainfall... Or during. Wouldn't that just help encourage him? Either way, he needed to get a move on.

The Sableye almost knew what was going to happen when she went to scratch the stupid Mawile that stood by the Rain Shrine. It would dodge and she would have to retaliate quickly. But either way, she would scratch the idiotic Pokémon. Howling in anger, she felt herself push from the ground as she leaped, throwing force into the scratch as she did so. But all she hit was the back of the Rain Shrine and part of 'Halo's' jaws. "Sable!"
She didn't even have time to make herself untransparent, to seep through the shrine. No - she ran smack into it, causin pebbles to fall and hit her. Her head pounded as she tried to think, body hanging limply next to the shrine she'd tried to hard to keep away from trainers for her short life span. Her whole body shook in fear as she opened her eyes, trying to spot out the Mawile who had seemigly disappeared. Where... Where had it gone? Shock passed over her face as she saw the shape of it dart toward her again. She pushed herself up, trying to stand as she regained her thoughts from the head bump, but couldn't do anything in time. She was attacked directly, possibly with what one could consider to be a critical hit. Falling back down, she writhed on the ground, trying to push anything near away from her. No! She would not fall under the trainer's power! She struggled with her thoughts, the forest seeming to close in around her as she stared up at the Mawile that contained stealth beyond its age. She hissed a last time before being officially knocked out. "Sable... eye..." Her head rolled to the side and she appeared to be in a deep sleep, though she had just fainted. Just as she passed out, a dark shape ran by, howling in rage. A Poochyena, maybe running from the storm? In its mouth it held a Poké ball, but it just darted off without looking at the group. sableye female lvl. eight night shade / scratch / foresight / leerYou defeated Sableye~! Would you... Was it normal for trainers to hold their breath the whole way through a battle? Because it was very likely that Jay had been holding it the entire time. In fact, when he exhaled at the last second, he almost gulped air back in. As a big swimmer, he usually didn't mind holding his breath for an extended period of time. But this time, he was dying. It was a short battle of course, but it was his first with Halo. She looked at him expectantly and he feared letting her down. What would happen if he didn't meet their standards? If they wanted a new trainer? He shuddered at the thought, pulling his hoodie closer to his body. Thunder cracked int he distance, followed shortly by lightning that struck the open sea. He could see even from his position that there was going to be some kind of warning out. People that flew on their Pokémon would need to take some extra procautions and water or surfing Pokémon would surely perish if out in this kind of weather. He worriedly looked at the gruond, which was somewhat damp from all the moss covering it. They caught the cool morning dew and, occasionally, the frost. They had been getting a lot of odd weather recently, anyway. With a gentle gaze, he moved his attention back to the feud folding out in front of him.
The Sableye seemed to fall apart in front of him, her body collapsing as she tried to stand because of Halo's oncoming attack. She quaked with some sensation before growling out a comment and passing out. He shook with excitement - his 'child' had done it. As just a baby to battling, his Halo had done it. Her name was fitting... Angelic and exciting, which was just like her. "You're amazing, Halo! Good job! Even Rapture appreciates it!" The Mudkip had broke out into a chorus of growls and cheers, enjoying the battle and its finishing positions. With a gentle sigh, he pondered what to do. But then, quick as a flash, a Poochyena ran by, paying them no mind. Something red gleamed in its mouth, possibly a Poké Ball. He was about to run after it, but decided against it. He wanted to catch the Sableye he'd just found. One more Pokémon would make this team bigger than the team of two he'd had before the Golden Islands. Scuffling around, he unclasped a free ball from his belt and rolled it in his palm.
With a huge intake of air, he threw he Pokéball in the air, directly toward the Sableye. It opened and the red beam shot from it, taking in its body andfalling to the ground. It shook once... Twice... But he looked away, unable to see what the results were. If he didn't catch it, he'd have to use one of his potions to heal it up anyway. And he would've just wasted a ball. Even he wouldn't let a wounded Pokémon out in Bluebell Forest. Any kind of cruelty was not to be appreciated so he just twirled his fingers together, hoping for the best. Halo, in the meantime, had stalked over to Rapture and gave him a huge high-five. The two Pokémon looked ready to have a party. Either they were just long lost relatives or they had developed and unbreakable kind of bond in the few days they'd known each other. Sharing blood was one thing, but loving another for no reason other than the fact that they were a good friend... That was something completely different.

Not to anyone near the group's surprise, the boy pulled a ball from his belt and held it in his hand, seeming to think about whether to throw the ball. The Sableye couldn't tell, but she had bet on it. She was ready, or so she thought. An energy force surrounded her, pulling her forward and down into the ball in a red beam of light. Her red, glimmering eyes regained their sight as she was sucked in. Immediately, she twitched rapidly. Nothing. She pushed out. Nothing. She wriggled about and yowled. Nothing. She was too weak to break back out of the ball - capture was unavoidable. She stopped, took in a deep breath, and fell into a deep sleep. For she was caught. She had failed. What would be interesting to the trainer about her was what item she was holding. A TM 91 she'd found in the forest from some trainer that had dropped it.
As the rain started to move in, a ton of Pokémon began to flee from the sound of the loud thunder and bright lighting. Wind picked up and multiple leaves, papers, and objects blew in the wind. In fact, something small and wrapped flew past Jayden's face, missing him by inches. What was it, though? Possibly a rare candy, It was hard to tell since it blew on past him, probably only able to be caught while running at full speed after it. But among the Pokémon fleeing and things blowing was something more interesting - a Tropius caught in the head of the storm. As the rain hit dry land, it had been sleeping and was caught up in the mass of wet hitting it. He'd stood and started to run, much slower than the rain. So, it ended up fleeing under the trees in an attempt to get shelter. It was all too bad that the trees weren't too thick yet... He mumbled a roar to himself and trudged forward, directly into the clearing home to the Rain Shrine.
Will you... Follow the Rare Candy or Help / Battle the Tropius?

Jayden covered his eyes with a hand, trying to block rain from hitting his face as it started to fall. He could hardly see with the rain falling, probably because at the Rain Shrine it was thicker. Knowing the Pokémon around, they just squirted water over in in rain to make it thicker. He saw the ball's red light in the rain. It flickered once... Twice... The ball rolled a bit, flailing rapidly as if the Sableye was trying to break free... Then nothing. Had he caught the Pokémon? Or was this a foul joke? He jolted forward, passing Halo who hid under a bush next to the shrine. The ball lay, growing wet in the falling rain. He picked it up in his hand and he immediately felt something. A spirit glowing inside the ball. There really was a Pokémon in there. What would he call her? It had been a girl, hadn't it? Maybe Rain because of the time he'd caught her. Or Zephyr, because it was unique. That did have a ring to it... Zephyr. He could call her Zeph or Zephy for short, too! He grinned and almost immediately clipped the ball to his belt, not wanting to take out Zephyr in the rain. She needed time to cool down and think about things, anyway. How would he liked to be taken from his home and brought out into a world where everything was new?
Turning around, he grabbed Halo's ball and enlarged it. "Come on, Halo. You did great for a first battle, but you can go into your ball now." She nodded and he popped open the ball, drawing her in. How had the weather rolled in so quickly? It had looked to be so, so far away... Rapture seemed to be enjoying it, though. He strutted around in the rain as if there was no tomorrow. Almost smiling, Jay whistled to him. Rapture looked up at him with black eyes and came running over, expectant and loving. "You're such a good boy, Rapture. How about we head home together? Just the two of us?" Smiling, the Pokémon nodded and jumped up into Jay's arms. The two really were perfect for each other, just like brothers. He was about to turn and run when a sound caught his ears. A candy rushed by his head along with some papers, brought on by the wind. Was that... Was that a rare candy? He was about to turn and run, follow the candy with Rapture, but... The noise was still there. Approaching.
Spinning on his heels, he turned to stare at the noise. The rain fell harder, blocking his view as something large rumbled closer. A brown and green shape, possibly, but he couldn't tell until the thing was right in front of him. He let out a yowl of fright, hoping to stop the Pokémon that scrambled away from the rain. The... Tropius, maybe, was too slow to outrun the rain. It was panicing. What could he do? It made some noises, responding to some unknown force. Rapture qiggled in his arms, trying to loosten his grip before he leaped back down and howled up at the Tropius. What was it doing? He had to help it, though, that was all he knew. "Rapture, ask him if he'd like to join us until we get back to Ivy Town?" Little did he know, Rapture had already done just that. And little did they know, if the Tropius came back to Ivy Town with them, he'd be a permanant asset to the team. He pulled up his hood as rain fell from his hair and into his eyes, watching the Tropius closely. "Mud! Mud, mudkip, mud, kip!"

The Tropius howled in disbelief as the Mudkip asked if he'd join them to save him from the rain. He couldn't believe the forwardness of the situation. The rain had ruined his wings so he couldn't fly away, and he was too slow to avoid the rain. He'd just walk throughout the entire storm, right in the heart of it all. Frowning, he looked down at the trainer, bowing his head to get a better look through the rain. The kid looked rather nice, for the starter Pokémon he probably hadn't known more than a week seemed to love him. He looked back to the Mudkip, weighing his options. Severely wounded in the pouring rain or safe and sound in a warm Pokéball? He didn't have anything else to do, really, so this was perfectly fine. He was a baby Pokémon, new to the whole world. He could go places with the boy. He nodded his head slowly, shooting a look at the boy as he waiting to be captured. If he was treated wrong, he was big enough to harm the kid's whole team.
Behind the daily activities of Jayden and the Tropius, a Treecko lurked back in the bushes, glaring out with inensity. Those idiots. Why were they disturbing the peace? The Rain Shrine was acting up because they were there! "Treeee!" He bustled out from behind the bushes, preparing to take on the Mudkip. If there was one thing to hate, it was the freezing rain. And there was no point in worrying about being caught - the kid had a ton of Pokémon already and he'd only just started out. He braced himself and flung forward, toward the Mudkip. They could run if necessary, but he was always an option to fight.

Why was it that the intelligent eyes of the Tropius practically made him shiver? The creature seemed to gaze through him, reading him in every way possibly for it to do. It looked back at Rapture and nodded. The small Mudkip ran over to him and tugged on his pant leg with a paw, rain still pelting all of them. Damn. At this rate, he'd be out of Poké Balls in a day! No more would be used after this one, that was for sure. He unclasped another from his belt and enlarged it by pressing the center button. Rearing his arm back, he pressed the button again and flung the ball toward the Tropius. It shook once, then, twice, then three times. It had no problem with being caught! This surprised him immensely. He had a Tropius. A Tropius and a Sableye. How lucky could he possibly get? Luck was not something he strolled upon often, so this was just amazing. The fact was, no matter how good he and his old Pokémon, Jade and York got, he couldn't catch a Pokémon. Even a level one Oddish, Bidoof, or Geodude. He had done it. Success seemed to wash over him in a waqve and he felt extremely proud of himself. Until, yet again, another growl erupted fromt he bushes behind him.
A Treecko rushed out, its long body stocky against what he'd expected to find. It looked severly angered - enough that he'd grab his new partner's ball and back away. He clipped it to his belt, a new energy running through him, before understanding something. He needed to back out of the clearing bit by bit until they were in the trees. That way, he and Rapture could take this thing down. Both had advanages - Rapture because of the rain and he Treecko because of the type. And it was stronger... But they could do it. Rapture was the best at being a trooper. He held his hands up the the Treecko and backed up, watching as it swooped dangerously close to his little Mudkip. Obviously, it had an anger problem. And not one like Zephy's. No, this one was what most trainers feared. It was just plain nuts - oblivious to the thoughts, feelings, and simple actions of those around it. He frowned and pointed toward it, using the rain to his advantage. "You have an advantage, Rapture. You blend with the rain! Use it and get a good tackle in!"
Rain still poured as the Mudkip shot forward, leaving him staring at an empty cloud of falling rain. Fog was starting to come, too. Or was it just mist? Either way, he was feeling a bit odd in the cool air. He wanted to get out, and fast. With a simple sigh, he shut his eyes, waiting to hear for what would happen. Some noise had to come out of it, right?

The Treecko had been expecting the Mudkip's attack, of course! What good trainer backed down from a big battle? Not that it would be big, just different for the kid. The rain pelted down, already making the grass type tired. No, it wasn't too effective, but she'd been walking all day, and now... Well, a battle wouldn't help too much. She sighed and braced herself, planting her feet firmly. The only way to tell what was happening was by listening to where the Mudkip sloshed. While it would have been easy for any other type, she blended in with the sounds of the water. The two could have been in the lab together at the same time, which brought irony to the Treecko's mind. Being wild was the best, and the dump Mudkip was obviously missing out on everything. How could it not see that? Out in the wild, you had no cares. Nothing to live up to and you trained yourself! It sounded perfect, but was it really? No matter how many times she second-guessed herself, she came to the conclusion that it was perfect. And against all odds, she would show the forsaken Mudkip.
Out of nowhere, the strong blue body flung itself into her. It had approached from her left, coming right from the bushes. Cursing, she rolled and flinched while she did, hoping it wouldn't be too noticeable. She looked up, but it was already fgone. Transparent with the rain... Tricky, but she could do better. Will all her wits, she pulled herself together to find the blue thing. She shut her eyes and waiting, only once hearing the scuffling of paws. Behind her! She shot up like a rocket and, with fists out, slammed her fist down on the Mudkip. Pound was useful, but only when used appropriately. She realized she was at a disadvantage long before, when she noticed the thing was a water type. Not that the blue body didn't give it away or anything... Hoping to retaliate, she looked around wildly through the rain to find out where it scurried to.
