the pokémon,
[/sub][/blockquote][/blockquote]
so it's a pokémon forum, for chrissake. you didn't think we were going to have regulations based on them?
*leveling,
[/sub]
leveling is a key measure of a pokémon's growth and their trainer's will to train it. gaining levels also teach pokémon new and stronger moves they can use during their battles.
generally a single level is always equal to 100 exp points, and any extra exp points gained, remain. so if your level 5 pokémon gained 75 exp points, then another 75, your pokémon would now be at level 6 with 50 exp points. we are trusting members to not add more levels or to sneak in an extra exp point than what is given. if anyone is caught doing so, their pc will be locked and be kept track of by staff.
once winning a battle, the exp points you gain are:
your pokémon | resulting experience |
+9 levels higher than opponentfive exp points

up to 9 levels higher than opponenttwenty-five exp points

up to 6 levels higher than opponentfifty exp points

up to 3 levels higher than opponentone level

at equal level with the opponenttwo levels

up to 3 levels lower than opponentthree levels

up to 6 levels lower than opponentfour levels

up to 9 levels lower than opponentfive levels

if a pokémon loses a battle, it will still gain exp, although it will always be half of what they would have gotten. however, you will never gain less than five exp points.
by switching pokémon or participating in double battles, it is possible to share exp. the amount of exp will always be based on the pokémon that defeated the opponent, and then divided by the number of pokémon who participated. in the case of a decimal number, it is always rounded up.
rare candies equal 100 exp points, so if you give your charmander a rare candy when it is level 10 with 20 exp points, it would now be a level 11 with 20 exp points. easy, right?

*battling,
[/sub][/blockquote][/blockquote]
battling is a general foundation for your pokémon, even when you are a coordinator. you might have to use fancy battling, but battling nonetheless. and when in the wild, you must level up your pokémon somehow so that they'll evolve and learn more moves.
in most cases, higher levels generally equal more power. unfortunately, this means that you can "power level" in other areas, which gives you an unfair advantage over areas with weaker pokémon. so we have based battles more on creativity. technique and strategy. this opens up a much fairer field of battle, although that's not saying that a weedle could take down a rhyperior. but a charmander against a pidgeot? a little bit more likely. ideally, winners will be decided on creativity, which means that combo attacks are encouraged. if there aren't many attacks to use, like say a level 5 ponyta with only tackle, use the environment and even your opponents attacks to try and win. post size does not matter too much, just your creativity.
being realistic in battles will also improve your chances. if your pokémon has a hasty and bold nature, than he is more likely to charge in without listening to your commands. if your pokémon is lazy, then he won't jump up and start flailing around and listening to all your commands. same with a pokémon you just caught. i doubt that they will be listening to a single one of your commands if you hadn't even talked to it after you caught it.
we rather encourage abilities to be used! if you would rather not have abilities, that is fine, but if you do, then please look to serebii.net for the lists of abilities. and make sure that you have the ability listed in your pc somehow. however, make sure that you are not abusing some abilities.
as a general rule, wild pokémon are weaker and//or less experienced than caught pokémon. unless, of course, you are just starting out. mods will keep this in mind and have wild pokémon be easier to defeat than trainers. but watch out, there could always be a released pokémon out there, and those tend to be a little sly.
when catching pokémon, the mods will tell you if you had caught it successfully or not. of course, you are welcome to try and throw the pokéball whenever you'd like, but it is possible to catch pokémon when they have "fainted." actually, it's better to do it that way. although, it might lower a pokémon's feelings for you. usually, regular pokéballs have a higher chance of pokémon breaking out, although the chance decreases with the levels of pokéballs.
*evolving,
[/sub][/blockquote][/blockquote]
evolution is considered important by some people for pokemon to get stronger, but not only do they gain powerful and new abilites, but they also gain a new form.
normal evolution deals solely with levels, and is one of the more common types of evolution. level evolutions may be canceled, either by the trainer's choice, or the pokemon's choice. the evolution can also be negated by giving a pokemon an everstone prior to the evolution. although it is up to the members to keep thorough track of their pokemons' levels, we would like to ask that you roleplay out the evolution, even if it is through a rare candy.
some pokemon evolve via stones. if the right pokemon comes in contact with the correct stone, evolution will occur. you may evolve the pokemon at any time in the roleplay, although you should keep in mind that a stone evolution may not be stopped.
there are types of pokemon that evolve while holding items. these pokemon will evolve once they reach another level while holding the item, along with any other necessary requirements. this evolution may be stopped, although it will try to evolve at every level until the item is taken away or once a requirement is no longer met.
attack evolutions are a strange type of evolution, and it is a bit rare. it means that a pokemon most know a certain move before it may evolve, and once it acquires said move, it will try to evolve when it reaches its next level. these evolutions may be stopped and are affected by everstones.
certain pokemon need the help of trades to evolve, sometimes with items, sometimes without. trading can be done through the trading centre, and trade-backs are allowed. however, we advise that you talk everything through with the member you are going through the trade with before trading. evolutions that do not require items may be stopped with an everstone.
happiness evolution is determined by the pokemon's happiness status, almost like a separate experience point system. once your pokemon's happiness reach 90-100, they will evolve once they reach the next level. like normal evolution, it can be canceled willingly or through an everstone.
some pokemon evolve at a certain time of day, some without other requirements, although most accompanies another. generally, you or your moderator will cycle through the times of day, so that you spend an even amount of time in both the day and the night. these evolutions can be canceled via choice or through an everstone. pleasenote! that regarding the evolutions of the pokemon wurmple is not based on personality anymore, but rather, the time of day. wurmple will evolve into silkoon from sunrise to sunset, and into cascoon from sunset to sunrise.
the fourth generation of pokemon games have introduced area evolution. we support this idea here, and there will be similar places to represent the ideas in the diamond and pearl games, just remember to keep an eye out!
*happiness,
: every time you release a pokemon for it to accompany you along your journey, it will gain one point (+1) per post.[/ul]
there are certain pokemon who only level up at maximum happiness. this will be determined using happiness points, almost like experience points, and will also determine your pokemon's feelings for the trainer. every pokemon will be given a basic happiness point to start off on, usually 0 (being neutral).
there are many ways to gain happiness, some of which are quite obvious. however, the ones listed here are not the only ways in which you may raise your pokemon's love for you. experiment, and a mod might pop in and inform you that your pokemon's happiness has risen.
of course, there are ways for pokemon to lose happiness. some are secret, and might require a bit of learning through mistakes, but hopefully these will give you an idea of what will make your pokemon unhappy.
there are certain things that should be noted about happiness. of course, there are the pokemon that require happiness to evolve, but that's not all. happiness can go as high as 100 and as low as -100! they are divided into different statuses, which affect how your pokemon would act. hopefully, all trainers would strive for all their pokemon to achieve 100 happiness points.
-79 to -50: hatred
-49 to -20: dislike
-19 to -1: annoyance
0: neutral
1 to 20: tolerance
21 to 50: like
51 to 80: adore
81 to 100: love[/ul]

*logic,
[/sub][/blockquote][/blockquote]
everyone knows the moves surf and fly. they use it all the time to get from one place to another. but it is impossible to surf on a shellder without getting wet, and a pidgey will not be able to carry you safely. so we have a list of pokemon you can surf on without getting wet (not limited to) and fly on safely (limited to).
surfing pokemon
flying pokemon
*rare,
[/sub][/blockquote][/blockquote]
in this section, we will explain what pokémon are considered rare by the people of the golden islands and because of this, it is pretty uncommon to see them wondering around. if you are fortunate to see one of these pokémon then you must be lucky, since only staff members can make these pokémon appear in front of the coordinators. unlike legendary pokémon, you may catch those under the rarity list. the rarity list covers all pokémon considered rare and their evolved forms, if they have any.
