Hayden strolled through the sandy beaches, yawning uncontrollably in a timed fashion. He had been expected to immediately find the Pokemon Lab on the harbor, but he had been tired and gone for a nice stroll on the beautiful beach. It wasn't a sin, was it?

Now he decided it was probably time to get going. He most likely wouldn't get his Pokemon in time if he didn't soon find that Lab. With a prolonged, dramatic sigh, he heaved himself off the white crystals of sand and stood up, dusting the particles off his clothes. Today he had decided to wear a nicely-wrinkled white shirt that said, "Hug me, I'm EMO." on it, with a black tie and black narrow jeans.

Hayden spied two girls playing in the water, splashing each other and laughing joyfully. He went up to them, hands stuck in his pockets, eyes flashing bashfully.

"Ladies," He started, "Where is the Pokemon Lab, may I ask?"

The girls stopped, looked at him, giggled, then smiled, and then finally, finally, they said, "Over there," and pointed to a white building next to the light tower. He smirked, waved, and made his way through the sand, treading slowly, thinking. It was almost sunset. As he trailed through the ground, he thought about whether doing this was right.

Of course it is, one side of his brain said.

It's not right to leave your parents hanging, said the other.

In any case, he wanted a Pokemon, and he wanted to live a different life, and that thought had won. He was going to be a Pokemon Coordinator.

"Well, there's no turning back now," he muttered to himself. He had arrived at the lab door. The lab itself was a pretty ivory color, neat and clean, with no clue as to what was inside. Well, except the huge door shaped as a Pokeball.

He gulped in some air, and pressed the doorbell.

"Hello? Excuse me, is anyone home?"

[ ASSISTANT KAI RICHARD ]

The blue pokémon padded along the wooden floorboards with his flippers occasionally slapping the floorboards a little too hard. The Golduck was standing in the pokémon storage room, where all the starters were stored for all the new coordinators. Secretly, the tough Golduck was little bit of a softy for the innocent young starters, often looking after them as some sort of protector, though he was known to be a pokémon who wasn’t afraid of discipline. He walked past the poke balls, sniffing at the air as he went before looking back at the human, sleeping at the desk in the corner. His trainer, Kai, was an assistant for the professor at the laboratory that they were currently in. He was a friendly young man, despite his tough and gruff demeanour.

Kai was having a pretty peaceful sleep, he had just come back from the trip to Emerald Island and the Professor was resting his head before the next trip, however, despite being on his shift, it didn’t stop Kai from accidently slipping off into slumber land. The sudden noise of the doorbell snapped Kai from his slumber and he couldn’t help but flail a little, knocking a few papers off the desk in his shock. “C-come in!” He called out towards the front door, scrambling up from the chair and stumbling towards the front door and opening it, revealing a young man with pink hair. “Sorry.” He chucked in embarrassment, running his fingers through his short hair, before gesturing for the new coordinator to come in. “I take it you’re here for a starter? They’re over this way.” Kai said with a smile on his features as Golduck stood at his side, before they both walked over to the pokémon storage room and gesturing towards the wall filled with pokéballs. Each pokéball had a small label underneath them, indicating the gender and what type of pokémon each pokéball contained.

Hayden stepped into the door silently, following the man as he quickly got into business and pointed to the storage room. It was a massive space as Hayden could see, filled with loads and loads of Pokeballs. He blushed silently as he realized he had forgotten to say hello, and while looking for the Pokemon he wanted, he turned and smiled at the man.

"Hi, there. I'm Hayden Mairle from the Hoenn Region; nice to meet you."

And then he went back to his frantic search. As his eyes pored over the many labels, he sighed as he thought. What would make the best contest Pokemon? Roselia would be the most ideal, of course, but apparently they didn't have that to choose from. As he glanced over the Pokeballs, he lifted his hand and accidentally knocked one off the shelf.

"Shoot." He muttered and was about to apologize profusely -- until he saw the creature that came out of it.

It was a gorgeous creature; with a puffed up body that gave it just the right amount of cuteness in it's face. With a blue body and white spots all over it, it gave the illusion of innocence. But with black eyes and sharp teeth, Hayden could see that it was hiding a lot of power under that mask.

He loved it.

As he quietly bent down and let the blubbery Pokemon hop joyfully onto his hand, he realized how beautiful this creature was.

He didn't want a Roselia. He wanted this. And as he took a look at the label on the Pokeball, he read: S - P - H - E - A - L. So that was it.

He wanted a Spheal.

"I want this little one, please." He said quietly to the assistant.

[ ASSISTANT KAI RICHARD ]

As soon as he entered the storage room with the young man, he smiled lightly at the teens introduction and nodded lightly to him. "Kai Richards, from the Kanto region. Nice to meet you." He said politely, before looking at his faithful companion, Golduck. "Could you get the box of starter items for me?" He asked said companion, who nodded and dashed off into a small walk in wardrobe, returning with a box of items filled to the brim. "This is your starter pack, all your essentials are in here from your boat pass to potions." He told Hayden, taking the box from Golduck and placing it gently on the side, so Hayden could see where his new box of items were.

The sailor and assistant watched carefully as Hayden looked around the shelves, the large man watched him carefully and so did Golduck, with narrowed crimson eyes. Suddenly, the boy dropped one of the starters and Kai couldn't help but gasp a little, hoping that the sphere wasn't damaged, he didn't want a broken object docking his pay but he was more concerned about the creature inside of it. However, he didn't say anything because it seemed like Hayden was staring at the creature in wonder. Kai couldn't help but smile, he knew he had met his partner, was it fate?

When Hayden asked for the certain one he knocked off the shelf, Kai walked over and looked at the pokemon inside, nodding in approval of his choice. "Of course, thats a great little one you got there!" He said cheerfully before passing him the box of items that he would need. "There we go, looks like your all set to set off." Golduck nodded with him, the blue duck like creature was standing next to Kai, looking between him and Hayden. "Good luck now, i'll look forward to hearing about your progress." Kai said with a friendly smile towards the pink haired boy.
