- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ANNA ADAMS
It was Anna's first time on a boat, and to be completely honest, she was ecstatic. She loved feeling as if she was flying above the water, especially when she leaned a little over the railings. One of the crew members had already told her to stop, that it was dangerous, but once he turned around, she continued. It was hard not to, when it felt like you could just jump off and join the Wingull flapping around in the air. Sometimes, if she looked hard enough, she could see Pokemon under the water. Anna liked to think it was something rare like a Seadra or maybe even a Manaphy! She knew it wasn't, but it was nice to think so. Give her adventure a lucky start.
When the boat pulled into the Onyx Island harbour, she had been almost heartbroken. But then she remembered that she would now get her first Pokemon, and it didn't seem so bad anymore. Stepping onto the docks, the cold winds kicked up and started whipping around her, tousling her hair and blowing the skirt of her dress behind her. Perhaps dresses weren't the best choice of clothing when starting on a Pokemon journey, but she couldn't help but wear them; they were so pretty. She'd start dressing in more practical clothes later. For now, these would do just fine.
Anna started down the streets, surprised. The Island itself was quite small, and consisted of just that one town--or so it seemed. The town was mostly surrounded by the ocean, and only one section led to what looked like a mountain. It almost made her feel claustrophobic, so closed in. Instead, she tore her thoughts away and started heading down the docks, aiming for a large-looking building built off the coast of the island. She had read up thoroughly before heading here, and she felt quite smart for doing so. That way she wouldn't have to look stupid in front of other people, asking them where the lab was. Instead, she headed over to where the lab was, without having to ask. No one would have to know that before heading on the boat, she had studied a brochure she had found for hours, memorizing exactly what the laboratory looked like and how to get there.
When she came up to the lab, though, she was surprised. the pictures made it look a little bigger than it really was. She also remembered to keep that little information from the professor. Unless she was greeted by one of the aides. Then she would keep her thoughts from them. She was sure that telling them so wouldn't be one of the greatest ideas. Anna rocked back and forth on her heels for a moment, before raising one hand and knocking. She realized that in her action, she had accidentally pushed open the door a little--it hadn't been latched closed. Tentative, she pushed it open and stuck her head inside.
"Ah... Hello?"

xx. lucy winters “Is that all of them, Azumarill?” called the assistant Lucy Winters from her position within the Pokémon room. After a while of not hearing any sort of reply, Lucy rolled her eyes and left the room, swiftly making her way down the small hall and out the door. Now outside, she bustled toward the right of the building. Right as she was about to enter the backyard, she heard a confirmation howl from her companion. “Azuma!” answered the water type as she waddled from behind the lab, shrugging her shoulders as if to say 'sorry'. Lucy pursed her lips dramatically before giggling lightly. Then, she patted her clever Azumarill's head and cooed, “Good work, m'dear.” She then fell back toward the lab, Azumarill shuffling quickly right behind her, a bright grin on her face. The reason Azumarill and Lucy were up and about so early was because they were training the newly hatched Pokémon to the desired level five. That way they were ripe and ready for the fresh coordinator's picking. Of course, it wasn't as easy as it sounded. But details will not be listed for that tiring procedure. “Well, that was certainly a work out,” huffed the bushed Lucy as she plopped down into the love seat. “Marill!” Azumarill propped herself up next to her trainer, sharing her fatigue. Now what do they do? “When do you think more people will start arriving?” inquired Lucy, tugging at a strand of loose hair.
Azumarill remained silent, merely shaking her head, symbolizing that she didn't know. Sighing, Lucy muttered, “I wish I had more patience, like Ike. It's a wonder why most visitors prefer his assistance rather than mine.” Lucy pouted pathetically, trying to win Azumarill's pity. The water type laughed softly, then ran a paw down her trainer's face, almost as if it were a falling tear. Lucy giggled yet again, gently pushing the paw away. Being her normal, bipolar self, she sang, “Well, I can make things right again. I'll show those others just how social I am!” Little did Lucy know was that her problem was that she was a little too social. Like she had uttered a magic word, the front door randomly popped open, making a strange creaking noise that disturbed Lucy. Quickly glancing toward the possessed entryway, Lucy narrowed her eyes, trying to catch whatever was trying to spook her. Stomping her foot, she hissed, “Who's there?” Once again striking the magic words, a head popped in; of a pretty little female. Her stormy attitude blown away, Lucy quickly grinned widely and—in a much softer tone—said, “Well hello there!” She swiftly rose from her chair, clasped her hands behind her back and approached the girl, motioning for her to enter with a head gesture. “So what brings you here on this fine day?” Lucy already knew the obvious answer to that question, but there was no harm in sparking small talk!

Anna jumped when she heard the loud bang, sweeping her head around to see what had made the noise. When she saw the woman, she let out a small breath, her smile widening a little out of relief. Feeling a little safer, Anna pushed the door open a little further and walked inside, making sure to shut the door softly behind her. She had a tendency to do things quietly, almost unnoticed. She's always done it, and now it was more of a habit than anything else. Anna didn't mind going unnoticed sometimes. Inside, Anna took a slow look around the lab, concluding that it was actually bigger than it looked from the outside. It was a little quaint, compared to the pictures of the other laboratories in the other regions, but she rather liked it that way. Gave it a more homey feeling.
"Hi there," she said, "I'm here to get my starter Pokemon. To start my journey and all that." Suddenly, getting a little feeling of doubt, she quickly added, "This is Professor Redwood's lab, right?" She then twisted the front of her dress, not knowing what to do with her hands. Usually she was calm, but she couldn't help but feel like a nervous wreck. She was only getting her starter Pokemon, it was nothing to stress about. But at the same time, it was definitely something to stress about. What if the Pokemon she chose didn't like her, or what if she took forever choosing and missed the Professor's boat? Or if the aide got angry at her. What if this just wasn't the lab, and she was actually in the wrong place? At that, her hands started to shake, and Anna tried to cover it up by squeezing her hands together behind her back. "Sorry, I'm just a little nervous." Although, "little" was stretching it.
Suddenly, remembering her manners, Anny held out a small hand. "Oh, I'm Anna Adams," she said, taking a deep breath and smiling again. Taking deep breaths usually helped, and it helped her very much now. Most of her nervousness was cast aside, although she was gripping at the back of her dress with her other hand. "You?"
Then, taking the chance that the lady she was talking to really was one of the Professor's aides, she admitted, "To be completely honest, I have no idea what Pokemon I'm going to get."

Lucy looked at the young girl in amusement, smiling as she analyzed her small features. She did look nervous. Quite nervous. She hadn't seen such a nervous person in a long time. The little girl's hands were shaking, and she looked like she was going into a nervous breakdown, or something. But as the girl gained her composure, Lucy just smiled brightly and urged her to talk -- mentally. Finally the young girl said something, though it was utterly random. It seemed she wasn't quite sure where she was! But yes, she seemed to be here for a starter Pokemon.
Lucy chuckled and said, "Of course this is the Professor's Lab! Though I'm not sure where that man has been all day." She really wasn't. All the people at the lab had mysteriously disappeared and left Azumarill and her to themselves - though it wasn't a bad thing, really.
Then the little girl held out her hand and Lucy took it happily, shaking quite vigorously and unfortunately not even knowing it. Poor girl.
"Hi, there! My name's Lucy and I'm one of the assistants of the lab. It's so nice to meet you. Oh, don't worry. I have a list of the Pokemon we have, with pictures for you to look at. Not a lot of people come prepared, you know?"

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ANNA ADAMS
Anna let out a breath of relief, something she hadn't realized that she had been holding. She was at the right place, which settled her nerves, and uplifted her, just a little. Now that she was quite certain that she was where she needed to be, Anna's thoughts rather turned to thinking about which Pokemon she would be able to receive as her starter. It was an exciting thought, especially when she had absolutely no idea what choices she had. Anna couldn't wait to find out.
When Lucy shook her hand, Anna had to brace her shoulders; the lady was so strong! When she stopped shaking hands, Anna gently massaged her shoulders, although she kept a smile on her face in case the lady noticed. She didn't want to be horribly rude. After all, she would be giving her her first ever Pokemon. The occasion was terribly exciting and scary, all at the same time. Anna felt that if she was nice to Lucy, perhaps she would get a good Pokemon, although she wasn't quite sure what she meant by that. A Pokemon who liked her? A Pokemon who was good at contests?
"I'd love to see the list, if you wouldn't mind," Anna said, relieved that she wasn't the only one who came unprepared. "Although, I'm afraid I might take a while in deciding."
Anna made sure to apologize in advance. She didn't know what might happen once she got her hands on that list. Then, another bout of nerves kicked in, and Anna squeezed her hands together. "Hey Lucy? What if the Pokemon I choose isn't the right Pokemon? How do I know?"[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Lucy smiled and walked briskly over to a cabinet over to the left of the room, taking the list of Pokemon that had been taped to the side, as well as a Starter Pack for the girl. She vaguely wondered why they didn't laminate the paper for the list. It was becoming very worn. She made a mental note in her head to write a new one and laminate it, then made her way back to Anna.
"Here you go! Your Starter Pack, which will be very important, mind you. You don't want to lose that, and here's the list as well. I know it will take a long time choosing your Pokemon, so don't worry. It took me ages to choose my Marill, and I didnt make a mistake! Look at my beautiful Azumarill here!"
Lucy grinned at the girl, trying to brighten her up. She was being a bit too polite and that meant she was uncomfortable; Lucy never liked making anyone uncomfortable. As she pondered why, she realized she'd probably never understand. Lucy had always been outgoing and fun to be around, while this girl looked like she was just the quiet type, born that way but people still liked her.
When Anna asked about choosing the right Pokemon, Lucy knew the problem immediately. She had felt it before as well, after all. Lucy figured out the best way to say it quickly because that was the way to get it over with. Her colleagues probably would have been surprised. After all, how could Lucy Winters spout something from her mouth that was so deep and philosophical?
"Anna ... the feeling of finding that Pokemon -- your Pokemon -- is amazing. It has nothing to do with right or not. Some people know its their Pokemon just by looking at the Pokeball; just by holding the ball. But I know that you'll know it, Anna. It just happens."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ANNA ADAMS "I think I'd be lucky if I got a Pokemon to bond with me like you and your Azumarill," Anna said, glancing at the water Pokemon. It must have taken great care for it to have become an Azumarill from a tiny Azurill.
Anna gratefully took the starter pack, almost falling in the weight. She hadn't expected it to be so heavy. Careful for her feet, she set it down on the ground, and then took the list Lucy handed over to her. It was worn, but Anna didn't mind. It just meant that many other people had had to look at the list as well, not just her. It made her feel a little better as she scanned down the list, taking in all the Pokemon names. There were a few she was familiar with, such as Torchic, Mudkip and Treeko. Having grown up in a city like Petalburg had its perks. But some of the other ones she only knew the name of, not how they looked. She scanned down until she chose a few she was interested on having as her starter. Handing the sheet of paper back to Lucy, she said confidently, "I think I know what I want. Could I see the Pokemon?"
Anna took Lucy's words to heart, making sure to remember what she said. It seemed impossible, that a connection to a Pokemon would form only just by touching the Pokeball, but Anna would place her trust on what Lucy said. It might seem impossible, but that didn't mean it couldn't happen. Anna liked to keep an open mind about things.
"Thank you," Anna said, smiling at Lucy. "I'll be sure to keep that in mind."

&&_kovu t. usagi ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Get off of my ship!” ordered an ornery man, pointing a stubby figure toward a younger man. The younger man—Kovu—cocked his head back and raised his arms in defense, his eyes wide with artificial surprise. Though he said nothing in his own defense. He could tell the old sailor had had enough of him on his ship. All he had done was cause trouble the entire time, making the cruise terrible for a few other passengers. Kovu mockingly saluted the sailor, before strictly turning heel and marching away. He heard several rude remarks hollered, but said nothing. It was just too much fun. As the ship disappeared into the numerous waves, and Kovu blended into the scarce greenery and buildings, the boy began to think. At least the sailor had been kind enough to kick him off while they were at his destination. Either he was blinded by anger and didn't realize this, or he was trying show a bit of maturity. Unlike most adults. Concentrating yet again, he realized he had a general sense of direction. Considering he had read a map he had stolen of The Golden Island repetitively. Past this market—he nodded toward a not very flashy building—and over that hill should be the laboratory he had been anticipating for so long. Feeling reassured, Kovu shoved his hands into his baggy jeans and lazily continued forward, barely comprehending the things he passed by as he trekked on. Like he had put his body on autopilot, and the only appendages actually expressing some brain activity were his legs and feet. His mind, however, was appointed a different conflict: why had he come to this island in the first place? He could have ran to a completely different region, but he had picked here. Originally, it was to pay back his debt to Houndour and show that he could properly care for a friend, but now he wasn't so sure.
For the first time in Kovu's life, he was experiencing doubt. However, he was way too passive to dwell on this thought for much longer, so he eventually numbed out completely, left with nothing better to agonize over. It seemed in a matter of steps Kovu was a few feet before the lab. Blinking away his brainless daze, he finally mumbled, “I could've mistaken this so called lab for a shack used to harbor orphans!” In other words, Kovu didn't really see how this small abode could be home to anything meaningful. Maybe it was because he was used to the giant, white and flashy labs with all the professors, aids, and assistants bustling around with clipboards. Shrugging his slouched shoulders, he made his way in, only inches away did he finally notice two women standing directly in the living room. He could tell because of the large window placed behind them. “Well, well, well; it's about time I have some fun!” Kovu kicked the door open—careful not to break it though—and hopped inside, holding his fists to his hips, “Alright, I've arrived! Fetch me my Pokémon!” After a short pause, he finally took in the features of the women, really noticing the girl that looked his age. She was a bit short, with auburn hair and dazzling emerald eyes. Everything about her just made Kovu feel particularly pleasant...or warm inside. Don't get him wrong, it was better than the cold numbness he had suffered from for quite a while, but it made him feel a bit uncomfortable. Grinning mischievously, he paraded over to the girl and stated in his most macho tone, “Pleasure to meet you, miss! The name's Kovu Usagi.” He then proceeded to bow, even reaching for her hand to kiss it. Oh, if only he hadn't dropped out of school. Drama club would've been right up his alley.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ANNA ADAMS To be honest, Anna jumped about a foot when the door slammed open to reveal a boy. He was quite bold, and a little disrespectful, demanding for his Pokemon like that. Her green eyes looked over the boy, and decided he was just like all the other teenage boys who romped around. Perhaps even her brothers would turn out like that, but she hoped not, not with her strict parents to guide them. If Anna caught word that any of her brothers ended up turning out like this boy, she would be quick to return back home and set them into their place. Never would she want her siblings to become so disrespectful or so rowdy. When the boy introduced himself and bent down to take her hand, she was startled for a moment, almost allowing him to take her hand. Last moment, she swapped her hand for the worn list of available Pokemon, so his lips met the paper rather than her hand.
"Anna. Anna Adams," she said, her tone a little less than friendly. She, for one, knew her manners and that she should return an introduction. Unlike the boy who barged in on her. This was her moment, her time to get her starter Pokemon, and she would not have the boy out to ruin it. She had left her family so that she could finally have her time, not to get interrupted again and again by others. Usually Anna would be a little friendlier to strangers, almost on the verge of being shy, but when people like Kovu came along, she tended to be a little more serious. She wasn't always so strict, but having grown up the oldest out of five children, she knew when to be nice and when she shouldn't be.
Instead, she left the boy to browse through the list, and turned to Lucy, a soft smile now on her face. The girl really knew how to control her emotions. However, her green eyes seemed to have a hint of desperation, begging for Lucy to just hand her her Pokemon and get on with things without the boy.

“ lucy winters ”
* * * Lucy watched impatiently as the young girl picked out her starter Pokémon. Now, she wasn't mad-impatient, but I'm-so-excited impatient. It was always a great day for her when a coordinator was paired with his or her life long partner. Lucy could relate to Anna's indecision, though. What if that certain partner hates your guts? What if they don't get along? So many 'what if's, but they could only be answered with one solution: making your decision. You'll never know what to expect until you actually have that damn Pokéball in you hand. Then you'll just know. Anna then spoke up, vocalizing her request. Lucy nodded, reaching for the slip of paper until a large bang nearly made her pass out. She jumped almost completely out of her skin before glancing over at the source of the ruckus: the door. It had been barged open be some teenage delinquent. She could tell by the way he smirked mischievously. Instantly, she rolled her eyes, snorting her disgust as he tried to kiss Anna's hand. Unfortunately, she had to give idiots like this one Pokémon, regardless of whether they were suitable or not.
She did giggle, however, when Anna replaced her hand with the list of starters. Azumarill waddled from the cabinet and handed Lucy the other starter pack, implying that she should do instead of herself. “Coward,” whispered Lucy between her teeth as she grabbed the back and tossed it to the boy. She then returned Anna's kind smile, jerking her head toward the hallway that lead to the back. “If you...two would follow me, I'll take you to the available Pokémon.” Lucy then strolled along at a brisk pace, Azumarill finding it rather difficult to keep up with. Lucy wasn't going to bother to see whether they were following or not, it didn't really matter in the end. She quickly turned for the right corner and entered the Pokéball room, loudly stating, “Here is where we keep our Pokémon. Simply find the name of your desired Pokémon on one of the name tags, snatch up the Pokéball and you'll be on your way.” Lucy smiled brightly, her anger towards Kovu fading into a dull annoyance.

&&_kovu t. usagi ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Before Kovu could even set his pair of kissers on the girl's hand, it was swapped with a cold slip of paper. Kovu paused for a moment, before kissing it passionately. “A token of your gratitude I see, Anna.” He finally ripped his gaze from the ornery female and swiftly scanned the list he had been given. There were certainly way more Pokémon to pick from than what Kovu had originally anticipated. All he really expected for a starter was either a Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle. You know? The works. Not that he wasn't excited, though. This gave him way more leeway to be original. Though after he finished scanning, he realized there weren't any Hondour available for the choosing. Kovu restrained himself from becoming depressed, quickly rifling back up to the top of the list. There he read a Pokémon species he had already taken a liking to a while back. They were such spaz Pokémon, it would be hard for him not to relate to it. He had finished up just in time, for the older woman harshly threw a backpack his way. Of course, Kovu caught it...in his chest. He dramatically coughed and spluttered, before sighing, “I'm sorry, hun. I'm not good at dividing my attention equally!”
However the girl didn't seem to catch his parting words as she bustled off down the hallway. That, or she didn't care. Kovu shrugged, looking back to the other girl and winking as he plastered a sly grin onto his mouth. “I guess we hafta follow her.” Kovu slowly edged forward down the hallway, looking back to Anna, hoping she would follow his incentive and walk with him. It may have been a high hope, but it would be better than simply leaving her with a bad taste in her mouth because of him. Kovu entered the Pokémon room, finally looking forward in order to witness the...eipcness! He had never seen so many Pokéballs in his life! He stared wide-eyed and open-mouthed at each and every name tag, finding it difficult to focus on his originally chosen Pokémon. Finally, he stopped at a certain name tag, and quickly snatched it up, staring at the crimson and white sphere as if it were expected to do something magical. As Kovu cradled it in his hand, he realized that it was meant for him! It felt so...right! This was his Pokémon, and nobody was going to take him away now. Not like Houndoom. “I promise,” murmured Kovu inaudibly, caught up in the moment.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ANNA ADAMS Anna barely even noticed Kovu once she handed him the paper, her attention was fully on Lucy. She rather refused to acknowledge the presence of the boy, really. When Lucy led them through the hall, Anna almost forgot about the boy, too excited at the prospect of finally getting her starter Pokemon. But then the boy pushed past and started walking ahead, looking back as if he expected her to follow him graciously. The nerve! What had ever happened to "ladies first"? Perhaps it was because she had ended up growing in such a pompous household, but she rather thought that it was a good thing, growing up with manners. That way people wouldn't think you were a hooligan. With a humph, Anna brushed off some imaginary lint off her dress and followed after Lucy. At first she might have walked beside Kovu, but then she quickened her pace so that she was between him and Lucy.
However, as soon as she walked into the room Lucy led them in, she was rather shocked by all the Pokeballs. She had never seen so many at once! Anna walked down the shelves, quietly reading all the name tags, looking for the one she had chosen. There were so many, it was much different than looking through a list. When she finally found the one she wanted, she was a little hesitant to reach out and grab it. But when she finally found the courage to do so, Anna was rather shocked. Almost literally. She was sure she felt something, just by contact with the smooth sphere. A soft smile replaced the surprise, and her grip on the Pokeball became a little more firm. "You and me," she murmured, holding the Pokeball close to her chest.
