The ferry ride to Emerald Island was less comfortable than the cruise ship Alexis had ridden to the islands themselves, and he made sure to 'forget' a thank-you as he stepped off the contraption, Ceero at his heels and his newly acquired Cyndaquil in his arms. Kett was quite the little princess, and to anyone who knew Alexis personally, this was something one wouldn't see him doing every day.
"That way, that way! I demand we go that way." she cried for the eleventh time, blissfully ignorant of the fact her trainer was making response to her attempts to dictate their direction, or that he was even acknowledging anything she was trying to say. Ceero trailed behind, his ears laid back against his skull in an annoyed gesture; he'd quickly grown attached to the aloof attitude his master exhibited, but for all the Houndour pup's loyalty, the presence of this princess-y Cyndaquil made it worse.
"... what a whore." the Houndour mumbled to himself as he plodded along, watching Alexis' back with a sulky expression shadowing his features. He'd never admit it, but Ceero was quite jealous that he wasn't small enough to be carried about like his newest teammate, and this fact annoyed him to no end. It was as if Alexis didn't value him half as much for that very reason.
In all truth, the only reason Alexis even considered carrying Kett was because of the value he placed on her; she was of interest, right now at least, only because she would be able to produce offspring of her own species, and baby Cyndaquil could fetch a high price on the market, especially - and this is where Ceero unknowingly came in - if they had a shiny attribute.
"Keep up now, Ceero." Alexis' voice rang out without the man even looking back at the Fire-type, and Ceero picked up his pace a little, a hopeful expression dawning on his face. Maybe he'd turn out to be his trainer's favorite, after all. Yes, he definitely would. The Houndour picked up his head proudly, and sauntered to his master's side, alertly looking from side to side as they traveled, completely unaware of the Cyndaquil eyeing him with some sort of distaste on her face.
Alexis, however, had no interest in whether his Pokémon liked him or not - as long as they performed in contests and tolerated him, fine. Even so, he absentmindedly raised his free hand to rub his fingertips along Kett's head, finding the short fur there smooth to the touch; the Cyndaquil accepted this praise gladly, and pushed up against her coordinator's hand for more touch, making a bizarre purring noise in the process, which again provoked an angry growl from the Houndour to her right.
Pausing a moment beside a tree, Alexis cast it an appraising look before setting down his bag and then sat down himself, leaning back against the bark and rummaging around in his pocket for a cigarette. It was high time for a small break.
